Have you ever stayed in a cinder block motel? I'd read about them in old pulp novels, but never really saw one until I got the chance to stay at this one in Sonora, Texas. It was called the Holiday Host and had a huge statue of Lakshmi in the lobby. What sealed it for me, though, was the mint green paint and matching chair.
