Heard Walking Down Valencia in the Mission

"Is coniferous a word?"
"Coniferous!"
"No, CONIFEROUS!"
"Eating meat? That's carnivore, you idiot."
"Like a cone-bearing tree. Did I make that up?"

Yes, dear. You made up the word for a cone-bearing tree all by yourself.

Are You Tired of This Yet?

I kind of am, but I can't help myself. They so interesting...
I was soooo drunk when I took this picture that I'm not sure why I liked it. I guess cuz the guy in the top hat is saying, "Pud." Like I say, I was fuckin' drunk.

I guess some people in the Mission are feeling a little city angst.

My Punions Have Been Heeled by Jebus!

These socks are the most amazing thing I have received lately. They even put the magic hanger to shame. Apparently there's a company in the UK that wants to put a little G-O-D back into the world via people's feet. Don't ask me why Jonah looks like a magic marker, just marvel at the big mouth that whale has.

Want your own? Go to Holy Socks Online where you can also get scripture that can be whacked with a golf club or keep the rain off your earthly pate.

Welcome to San Francisco

I cannot express my love of this wall in words.

McCarthyism is alive...ALIVE! I don't know the context of this poster, but it's nice to see Frankenstein being resurrected.

Who knew punks were so organized?

It's good to live in the Mission, if only for the summer. My "host family" has allowed me to immerse myself in this ocean of goodness.

A Bargain at Any Price

Not only are these hangers "tubular" (ah, the California of my youth comes rushing back), but more importantly they're "magic" as well. Eight of these tubular magical wonders for $1.29.

Respite from my Texas Sauna

I guess this is a fitting image to say a fond farewell to Austin for the summer. What I find interesting about this crop of Austin "grafitti" artists is that they are printing these up on paper and then posting them around town. With this piece someone--maybe the artist, maybe someone else--added the paint later. I saw another version of this with just the flower, but this is so much more beautiful and...sooooo goth!

For the rest of the summer, except for the random image that I have in the queue, every picture will be about Nor*Cal. I'm so psyched to leave the impending heat here and get back to cold and fog.

Fuck You Microsoft

So I turned on my computer today and got this message. Microsoft has the right to try to enforce their copyright. Goes without saying. But when they try to control how I set my system clock I get really pissed. I'm not using any trial versions of their software--they don't have any--so they have no right to tell me how to set my clock with the implicit threat that they will somehow deny me usage of my legally licensed version of their shitty operating system.

This is where the ease of use rule really breaks down. Since I was sick of having to check for updates because their code was so full of holes for worms and other malware I turned on automatic updates. My mistake since they are using that hole into my system to peek into my Windows literally. Where does MS's service end and my privacy start? I guess in a time when the government can wiretap to defend against terrorists and business concerns trump the individual there are no rules limiting how companies can defend their intellectual property. The new rule is "by any means necessary" and no one is going to step up and put a stop to it.

Free Breakfast

When I parked my Vespa at UT this morning the birds had a lovely treat of someone's lost breakfast/lunch. Maybe I am a little emo because of the end of semester pressures, but I thought it was really lovely to see the birds cleaning up after the humans in a way that made their stomachs full. It's good to get free breakfast every so often.

It was oatmeal, by the way.
